Applications

Student Application

All students who are enrolled as part-time or full-time undergraduate students in greater Los Angeles area community colleges or four-year institutions, public or private, are eligible for student membership in the Press Photographers Association of Greater Los Angeles. 

Student members are non-voting members in the organization.

Students must be a PPAGLA member to enter the Student Photojournalist of the Year and Student Video Photojournalist of the Year contest ($3,500 in total prize money and a camera gifts from Nikon).

Membership does not constitute status as working press for purposes of crossing police or fire lines or acquiring press passes from any law enforcement agency, fire department, or other emergency organization. Abuse of membership privileges is cause for membership revocation. 

Student membership is terminated upon graduation from community colleges, four-year colleges, graduate school or after five years, which ever comes first. Students still pursing their education after five years, who are still enrolled, as photography or photojournalism students in southland colleges are eligible for membership review with possible continuance until such reasonable time that they graduate.

Professional

All persons employed as full-time staff photographers on a daily and weekly newspapers, national newsphoto services, national news and sports magazines, television photojournalists, and independent photographers whose photographs are published on a regular basis and whose income is primarily derived in the above mentioned publications and services, who are assigned to the greater Los Angeles area or its environs shall be eligible for membership as determined by the Board of Directors. The environs of greater Los Angeles shall be defined as being within boundaries of any county which falls within 100 miles of the Los Angeles City Hall.

Associate



An Associate Member shall be a major contributor such as a professional instructor who is a supporter of the arts and communications / journalism / photo-journalists; professional photography vendors, professional photography organizations, public information officers for any public safety agencies, public relation specialists, news publications, television reporters and content producers. An Associate Member is a non-voting, non-office holding member of the PPAGLA. The application for an Associate Membership will be reviewed by the membership committee and if approved will be placed before the Board of Directors for final approval.
